Residential Superintendent
Residential Superintendent
High-End Custom Renovations, Additions & Historic Restorations
Alexandria, Virginia | Full-Time | $35-$45/hour
Company vehicle, subsidized health insurance, paid time off and retirement match
Build Something You'll Be Proud to Put Your Name On
You know what good construction looks like--and what it takes to get there.
Maybe you started your career as a carpenter and worked your way into a lead or superintendent role. You know how a job should be sequenced, what quality workmanship looks like, how to spot a problem before it becomes expensive, and how to keep a project moving.
That's the experience we're looking for.
At Harry Braswell Design, you'll lead high-end custom renovations, additions, and historic restorations throughout the Washington, D.C. area. Our projects include architect-designed spaces, specialized materials, and homes more than 150 years old.
This isn't production construction. Every project is different, and we're looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of figuring things out and getting the details right.
Why this opportunity stands out
Top-of-Market Pay
Earn $35- $45/hour, with the top of the range available to someone who can independently lead complex residential projects. We're prepared to pay for the right person.
Projects That Actually Use Your Experience
Work on high-end custom homes, additions, and historic properties--not cookie-cutter subdivisions. Your knowledge of construction, sequencing, materials, and craftsmanship will matter every day.
Autonomy to Run the Job
You'll be trusted to take ownership of your projects--coordinating trades, ordering materials, planning ahead, solving problems, and keeping the work moving. The goal is for a strong superintendent to oversee one to two projects as project needs and experience allow.
Work That Challenges You
Our projects often involve architectural details and specialized products you may not have worked with before. You'll be expected to research, problem-solve, and figure out how to make things work--not simply wait for someone else to provide the answer.
Benefits
The position includes a company vehicle, company-subsidized health insurance, paid vacation, sick leave and holidays, and a SIMPLE IRA with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 3% after the applicable eligibility period.
What You'll Own
You'll be responsible for keeping your projects organized, moving forward, and built to an exceptional standard.
- Plan ahead and coordinate trades, materials, deliveries, and the construction sequence.
- Lead the job site and give subcontractors and trades clear direction.
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Inspect workmanship and address issues before they create rework.
- Research unfamiliar products and work through challenging installation details.
- Coordinate with architects, designers, subcontractors, and the internal team.
- Identify problems early and bring forward practical solutions.
- Order materials and make sure the job has what it needs to keep moving.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional job site.
- Keep the team informed of progress, upcoming work, and issues that need attention.
Who We're Looking For
You may already be a Residential Superintendent, or you may be an experienced Lead Carpenter or Foreman ready to take full responsibility for a project.
You bring:
- At least 5 years of residential construction experience.
- A strong hands-on carpentry background or equivalent practical construction experience.
- Experience leading residential construction as a superintendent, foreman, lead carpenter, or similar role.
- A strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
- The ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
- Confidence coordinating subcontractors and directing work on site.
- Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness when something is unfamiliar.
- A high standard for craftsmanship, quality, and attention to detail.
- Reliable follow-through and clear communication.
Custom Construction Experience Matters
We're particularly interested in candidates with experience in high-end custom residential construction.
Experience with historic renovation or restoration is a strong plus, although it is not required.
If most of your experience has been managing large production developments or building hundreds of similar homes, this probably isn't the environment for you.
We're looking for someone who enjoys custom work, unique challenges, quality craftsmanship, and figuring out how to get the job done right.
If This Sounds Like You, We'd Like to Meet You
If you're an experienced residential builder who wants top-of-market compensation, autonomy, and the opportunity to work on exceptional custom projects, apply today with your résumé.
We'd love to learn about the projects you've led and the type of work you're most proud of.
